Our Story

Sri Murugan Cinema was founded in 1985 by the Murugan family with a simple dream: to bring the magic of cinema to the people of Sivakasi and the surrounding Virudhunagar district.

What started as a single-screen theater with modest wooden seating has grown into one of the most beloved entertainment destinations in southern Tamil Nadu. For nearly four decades, families have gathered under our roof to laugh, cry, and celebrate the art of storytelling on the big screen.

Today, Sri Murugan Cinema combines that original warmth and community spirit with cutting-edge technology including Dolby Atmos sound and 4K laser projection, ensuring every visit is a truly immersive experience.

Our Journey

Key milestones in our cinema's history

1985

Founded

Sri Murugan Cinema opens its doors for the first time on Cinema Road, Sivakasi. The single-screen theater seats 400 guests and quickly becomes a community landmark.

1998

Major Renovation

A complete interior renovation expands capacity to 600 seats, adds air conditioning, and upgrades the sound system to Dolby Stereo for an improved viewing experience.

2015

Digital Upgrade

Transition from traditional film projection to state-of-the-art digital projection with 4K resolution and a brand-new 70-foot screen installation.

2023

Dolby Atmos Installation

Installation of Dolby Atmos 7.1 surround sound system, VIP recliner seating section, and a modernized lobby with an expanded snack bar.
